In music, rhythm is one element that keeps music interesting and complex. Think of the boom-boom-boom-boom of the bass drum, the tss-t-t-tss of the hi-hat cymbal, and the pfft...pfft of the snare drum. All three sounds are okay on their own, but when we play all 3 sounds, we get a complex and aurally interesting sound.

It's the same way for visual art.

Here are this weeks images!

PJ Loughran, Workbook #28, pg. 298
In this image, there are a couple of rhythms that you can see. There is a repetition of circular shapes around the saxophone. It really captures the movement of the musicians fingers. Another rhythm is the use of thin and thick lines on the musician's shirt. The final rhythm to counter-act the bold black lines, are the soft stripes in the background.

Margaret Hurst, Workbook #28, pg. 582
In this image, there is a rich, vibrating sense of rhythm all throughout the picture plane. Lots of little lines and little strokes all throughout the composition

Paz Ulloa, CA Oct/Nov 2017
In this advertisement by Pazz Ulloa, there is an overall rhythm of color and shapes throughout the image. Even though each element is a completely different design, the coordinating colors and generally same size and even spacing makes it very interesting to look at. The large red text laid out like a grid adds another element to the rhythm too.

Marco Molteni/Margherita Monguzzi, CA Oct/Nov 2017

In this final image, only 2 different lines of text are used, but they are repeated and layered over in such a way that it makes your eye move across the plane. It almost looks like a piece of fabric. The undulating shape formed by the lines of text make for a very compelling image.
